David Downie, the renowned travel, food and wine writer, will appear at The Piedmont Center on October 19 at 5:30 pm, to discuss his latest bookA Taste of Paris: A History of the Parisian Love Affair with Food.   A San Francisco native, David lived in New York, Providence, Rome and Milan before moving to Paris in the mid-1980s.  His articles regularly appear in Bon Appetit, Gourmet, Saveur, and Gault &Millau (the premier French food guide), as well as online at Epicurious.com.

David has already written the definite walking tour for Paris: Paris, Paris--Journey Into the City of Light, which many would not visit there without!  Now, in his trademark witty and informative style, he follows the contours of history and geography of this beloved city to take readers on an insider's gourmet walking tour and history of French food.  Just a few of the topics covered in this delightful and informative book include: early 1600's desserts; the history of foie gras, how Parisians dealt with the canonical calendar of lean and fat days; the history of peppery, wine-soaked, long-cooked jackrabbit!  What is it about the history of Paris that has made it a food lover's paradise?

David Downie Book Party will start at 5:30pm.   Copies of David's book will be available at the event, with David available to personally autograph them.
