The incomparable jazz vocalist Kenny Washington will perform at the Piedmont Center for the first time on Thursday, March 1, in a concert with vocalist Suzanna Smith.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is under the auspices of Jazz in the Neighborhood, and offers a rare treat to jazz lovers to hear two of the Bay Area’s treasures. The audience can expect an evening of spontaneity, loving duets and individual material from these two vocal powerhouses.

Washington is known as a consummate professional with impeccable intonation.

He most recently performed locally at Chapel of the Chimes on Piedmont Avenue on January 21 in a duo concert with guitarist Jeff Massanari. Dubbed the Superman of the Bay Area jazz scene by the San Francisco Chronicle, Washington is a jazz virtuoso who thrills audiences with his seemingly limitless range and rapid-fire scatting. During the holidays he toured with Winton Marsalis and performed at Lincoln Center in New York.

Washington and Smith will be backed by three of the Bay Area’s finest musicians, Larry Dunlap on piano, Ron Belcher on bass, and Leon Joyce, Jr. on drums.
